Antique 1884 Inspector Denning Vanity Fair Print - Framed - VGC Antique 1884 print of Inspector Denning for Vanity Fair magazine, beautifully designed by the famed Vanity Fair artist, Carlo Pellegrini The original currently sits at the National Portrait Gallery in London and was published in Vanity Fair on the 16 August 1884 This is a framed 1884 chromolithograph caricature by "Ape" (Carlo Pellegrini) from Vanity Fair, depicting Police Inspector Ebenezer Denning. The accompanying text provides biographical details about his career as head of the Parliamentary Police. Inspector Denning was the son of a Devonshire farmer and joined the police at eighteen, rising to the top of the force. He was well-known at palaces and racecourses (Epsom and Ascot) in addition to Westminster. He was involved in historical events, including taking Arthur Orton to Newgate and handing Charles Bradlaugh out of the lobby. He was also a Sunday school teacher and a respected figure in the British Parliament.
