Vintage from the 19th century
Lovely antique English stoneware bottle bears the impressed mark for the J. Bourne & Son Pottery near Denby.
The tall round bottle has a flat base with straight rising sides ending at an incised shoulder which progresses with a curved neck ending in an opening having a formed rim. The bottle is brown in color and glazed. It is thick stoneware; heavy. These bottles were usually used for ginger or stout beer. The bottle is in good condition considering age. No cracks, hairlines, or repairs; two small chips on the bottom (see in photo). There are a few manufacturing defects, which should be expected, which adds to the overall authenticity of this bottle. Perfect for your collection of English stoneware. Lovely filled with long stalks of fresh lavender.
Measures 7” tall; base measures 3 in diameter approximately
