This 2-in-1 CD features Caldera's 1st album, "Caldera" (1976), and 2nd album, "Sky Islands" (1977), from the jazz/fusion boom of the 1970s. While influenced by Return to Forever and Weather Report, who spearheaded the boom, they also incorporate elements of world music such as EW&F, Afro-Cuban salsa, Brazilian samba, and Andean/Peruvian music. "Caldera" was produced by Wayne Henderson, the trombonist of The Crusaders. "Sky Islands" saw Larry Dunn, the keyboardist of EW&F, join as producer and guest player. The title track features Dianne Reeves, who was unknown at the time.
