English Cranberry Glass Paneled Sugar Castor with Silver Plated Lid. From Kentshire Galleries of London and New York. Unused since purchased at Kentshire. 6” tall, 2” diameter at bottom. Top pulls off, is pushed on, no grooves for screwing on. Silver plated lid has some patina, could easily be polished to a shiny new look, but some people like the aged patina look, and that takes years to form. So it’s up to you if you want to keep or polish away the patina. The Cranberry glass has 12 panels; that’s hard to make now, and was even harder to make in the Victorian Era of handmade glass blowing, which is when Kentshire Galleries estimates this Sugar Caster was created. It weighs 9.5 ounces. No chips or cracks or scratches. There are some bubbles in the glass, which was natural for such 19th Century Cranberry Glass glassworks. If it didn’t have bubbles, that would be a sign this wasn’t made around 1870. For authenticity, you can rely on Kentshire Galleries, a top notch Antique Gallery.
